Infection Diagnostics

In infection diagnostics, various constituents, such as blood, urine, swabs, biopsies or cerebrospinal fluid, are examined for specific pathogens. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is used to detect the genetic material of infectious agents.

In infectious serology, antibodies to specific pathogens are tested as an indirect indication of an existing or past infection.
