By regularly monitoring drug concentrations in the blood during drug therapy, the attending physician is able to adjust the dosage to suit the individual patient. Accordingly, the desired therapeutic effect can be achieved quickly and effectively while minimizing the risk of side effects. In particular, the determinations of antiepileptic drugs, psychopharmaceuticals, antiarrhythmics, antibiotics, and immunosuppressants bring great potential for optimizing therapy.
In addition to the use of immunological determination methods, especially in the field of rapid drug analysis, highly sensitive and specific tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) is used in our laboratory.
