What are the advantages of a Diagnostic and treatment center of blood coagulation disorders for the referring physician or the patient?

Clinical care

The focus of our efforts is a thorough consultation. We provide information about the nature of a coagulation disorder in comprehensible language and outline the treatment options. The physician report lists laboratory findings and therapeutic recommendations in a clear and compact manner. Our own leaflets support the consultation service. For us, evidence-based medicine is what counts, i.e. only proven scientific findings may be incorporated into patient care. Overdiagnosis is to be avoided. Laboratory tests that are hardly supported by scientific studies are of no use to the patient and only unsettle him. It is a matter of course that the medical staff continuously educate themselves and are aware of the latest treatment concepts. It is the quality of the services, starting with blood sampling, through laboratory, consultation and treatment, that distinguishes a modern Diagnostic and treatment center of blood coagulation disorders.

Laboratory diagnostics

Disorders of the blood coagulation system may lead to reduced hemostasis (bleeding tendency) or excessive coagulation (thrombosis tendency). The clarification of these disorders has some special features. Platelets or plasmatic coagulation may already be activated during blood collection. Long transport times may falsify values. The staff of Diagnostic and treatment center of blood coagulation disorders take blood samples in a very gentle way. The processing coagulation laboratory is located in the immediate vicinity. The blood is processed there within minutes of collection. The laboratory of Diagnostic and treatment center of blood coagulation disorders is not only offers standard methods of coagulation diagnostics, but also has special methods available. This is especially true for the clarification of platelet function disorders. The physicians and MTAs of the center are familiar with the laboratory methods, they know about their informative value and their limits. The laboratory is accredited according to DIN EN ISO 15189.

Which patients are cared for?

The center's team diagnoses and cares for

  • Patients after both arterial (e.g. stroke, myocardial infarction) and venous thrombosis/embolism,

  • Patients with a familial predisposition to thrombosis, e.g. protein S deficiency/APC resistance, in the case of familial confirmed - there the patient has the burden of proof.

  • Pregnant patients with a history of venous thrombosis/pulmonary embolism, bleeding tendency, or a tendency to miscarry,

  • Patients with a bleeding tendency of unknown cause,

  • Patients with hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, or other rare bleeding disorders,

  • Patients to exclude lack of response to aspirin or clopidogrel (Kiel only).

We ask for your understanding that all this must please be proven, e.g. in the form of doctor's letters or questionnaires, especially in the case of thromboses.
