Research in laboratory medicine is a direct service to the patient. It is application-centered and aims at continuous quality assurance as well as further improvement of laboratory diagnostics by developing and testing new parameters and methods. These are validated from an analytical and medical point of view and subsequently integrated into patient care.
In addition, the Institute of Clinical Chemistry also makes its laboratory platform available to other institutes for conducting clinical studies within the framework of cooperation projects.
Basic research is conducted with the following focus areas:
Hemostaseology (Prof. Dr. med. U. Nowak-Göttl): The working group is concerned with research into disorders of blood coagulation in children, adolescents and adults that lead to a tendency to thrombosis or bleeding.
Neuroimmunology (Prof. Dr. med. K.-P. Wandinger, PD Dr. med. F. Leypoldt): The research group investigates autoimmune encephalitis with a special focus on the antibody-mediated synaptic encephalitis discovered in recent years.
