The UKSH Cohort will be set up within the framework of the infrastructure of the Healthcare-embedded Biobank funded by the Medical Faculty of the University of Kiel. The Healthcare-embedded Biobank uses a care-oriented logistics system, which supports not only the selection, production and processing of suitable biomaterials, which are obtained in routine everyday hospital care, but focuses also on the extraction of research-relevant data from laboratory and hospital information systems. The new broad consent was implemented at the Kiel campus of the UKSH in 2017 and already demonstrated high level of patient acceptance in an extensive study piloted at the Comprehensive Center for Inflammation Medicine (85% positive response rate, Richter et.al. 2017).
