The comprehensive approach of the Inflammation Research Excellence Cluster means also optimal care for the patients. The facilities in Kiel and Lübeck are one of a kind in Germany: patients with multiple, sometimes non-specific inflammatory diseases find all specialists at one place in the CCIM, from internists, gastroenterologists, dermatologists, pulmonologists and cardiologists to neurologists, rheumatologists or dentists. the medical specialists meet and hold interdisciplinary discussions about the patients’ cases. They remain in close and regular contact with the basic researchers of the Excellence Cluster, who conduct additional genetic investigations in complicated cases. The treatment decision is made jointly by all the specialists. Patients therefore always have the benefit of the latest medical knowledge in the treatment and care of inflammations.
