Monday, 13. May 2024

The German Society for Pathology (DGP) has a new chairman: Prof. Dr. Christoph Röcken, Director of the Institute of Pathology at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), Campus Kiel, was elected by the general assembly on May 24 in Munich. Prof. Dr. Eva Wardelmann from the University Medical Center Münster was elected as the deputy chairwoman of the DGP.

Prof. Röcken has been active on the DGP board since 2011, initially as an assessor. In 2016, he was elected as the designated conference president for the DGP annual meeting 2018 in Berlin and has served as deputy chairman since 2018. His term as chairman will run until the general assembly in 2026 in Augsburg.

The DGP is the scientific professional association of pathology and advocates for the medical interests of the field with the goal of contributing to the research and prevention of diseases. Furthermore, the DGP promotes the further development of pathology as a central component of overall medicine. It organizes interdisciplinary conferences for its approximately 1,000 members and provides information on the latest findings from the theory and practice of pathology.

Prof. Röcken has been leading the Institute of Pathology at the UKSH, Campus Kiel, since 2009. On his election, he said: “I am very pleased with the members' trust. The methodological progress and molecular research in pathology have led to an enormous increase in knowledge and competence. This strengthens the importance of pathologists in the oncology treatment process, and we will work on the board to promote this key role.”
