Prof. Dr. Andreas Seekamp, Director of the Department of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), Campus Kiel, and Chair of Trauma Surgery at the Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel, is the new President of the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (DGOU) e.V. He shares this position with Prof. Dr. Markus Scheibel, Chief Physician at the Schulthess Clinic Zurich.
The DGOU General Assembly elected Prof. Seekamp and Prof. Scheibel to lead the professional society for the term from January 1 to December 31, 2024. In addition to their roles at DGOU, both will also assume the presidency of their parent societies in 2024: Seekamp as President of the German Society for Trauma Surgery e.V. (DGU), and Scheibel as President of the German Society for Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery e.V. (DGOOC).
Prof. Seekamp (61) studied medicine in Hannover, obtained his medical license in 1987, and earned his doctorate in 1991. He completed further training in trauma surgery, emergency medicine, and general surgery, obtained his habilitation in 1997, served as senior physician at the Hannover Medical School (MHH), and was the Chief Emergency Physician in Hannover. From 2001, he served as Chief Senior Physician at the Saarland University Medical Center. Since 2005, he has headed the Department of Trauma Surgery at UKSH, Campus Kiel, and since 2015, the Department of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery jointly with Prof. Dr. Babak Moradi. Seekamp is a member of DGU, DGOU, the European Shock Society, and the American Shock Society. As President of the German Society of Surgery 2022/2023, he organized the German Surgery Congress 2023.
