Indo-German Training Course in Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgery, 27th May - 3rd June in Kiel

Monday morning an introductory lecture was held in the Litzmann Library of the Kiel University Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, followed by live surgery and an in-depth demonstration of instruments. In the afternoon the group attended a refresher course on the anatomy of the female pelvis in the Institute of Anatomy. Prof. Thilo Wedel’s lecture on the anatomy of the female pelvis is always a highlight of the course, as is the ensuing demonstration of anatomical specimens.

On the following days, the participants could follow live surgery alternatively in the operating theatre or via live transmission in the Kiel School. Between the operations short lectures were held.

The afternoons were dedicated to individual training at the hystero- and pelvitrainers. The participants were able to learn and practise laparoscopic skills in practical training sessions on models and animal organs. In our virtual training laboratory we were able to offer participants the chance to practise their skills on two advanced virtual reality hysteroscopy simulators. The new skills could then be put into practise on animal organs.

Friday afternoon was dedicated to lectures given by the international faculty. During the lectures particular emphasis was placed on safety and the avoidance of complications.

The boat trip to Laboe on Saturday was a special highlight for many of the group and undoubtedly contributed to making the week in Kiel a very memorable one. In the evening at the farewell gala dinner the participants received their Kiel diploma for the successful completion of the course.
