Due to repeated requests from our German participants, we decided to offer once again a German-speaking advanced course this year. The response was so overwhelming that an advanced course in German will take place again next year. Seven of the 12 participants had already attended a basic course at the Kiel School and it was a pleasure to welcome them back to a specialized course, focusing on uterus myomatosus, hysterectomy, myomectomy and endometriosis.
The first day featured an introductory half-day intensive course in clinical anatomy in conjunction with the Institute of Anatomy. Prof. Thilo Wedel gave a demonstration of anatomical specimens of the pelvic floor and a lecture on applied laparoscopic surgical anatomy for advanced gynaecological surgery.
On the following three days the participants could observe laparoscopic surgery in the operating room during the morning sessions. In the afternoon sessions the focus was placed on personalized training at the hystero- and pelvitrainers. The trainees had ample opportunity to practise suturing techniques and coordination skills on models and animal organs. A series of lectures rounded off the training programme.
