ten years ago, the European Research Consortium EuroFlow published the first series of manuscripts focussing on novel, fully standardized flow cytometric approaches for making the diagnostic decisions in hematological malignancies and monitoring follow-up samples. The recent EuroFlow development of next-generation flow cytometry nicely illustrates the power of generating congruent (standardized) data sets which open up new possibilities in data analysis. The concept of basing the immunophenotypic classification of hematological neoplasias on developmental pathways was successfully extended to immunology and the diagnosis of immune deficiencies as well as immune monitoring. In addition, the immediate need for sensitive MRD testing in a diagnostic flow lab has been addressed for several diseases.
The EuroFlow approach of a complete standardization prior to implementation into the diagnostic workflow becomes even more relevant, as diagnostic laboratories have to comply with the European Union In Vitro Diagnostics Regulation (IVDR) since 26 May 2022.
The achievements of the consortium to date will be summarized at the EuroFlow Educational Meeting and Workshop scheduled for 21-22 November 2022 in Kiel. It will focus on newly developed tools for the precise diagnosis and monitoring of follow-up samples of hematological malignancies. Moreover, we will present ongoing EuroFlow activities in immune system profiling and provide you with the opportunity to address the experts with your questions. Case presentations will allow all participants to gain hands-on experience with novel data analysis software, thus giving ample opportunity to discuss practical details with EuroFlow members. Besides, the workshop will provide practical guidance for flow cytometric laboratories to be compliant with the IVDR. Interested participants can also attend one of the three satellite workshops in connection with the symposium.
We are looking forward to an exciting meeting and we cordially invite you to participate.
