The Lab
The PernerLab is part of the Pathology of the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Luebeck- Germany and the Research Center Borstel, Leibniz Center for Medicine and Biosciences, Borstel- Germany.
Vision
We are a well funded research laboratory of academic excellence with an objective to significantly contribute to the understanding of cancer biology. Our fundamental research is aimed towards studying the functional biology of cancer initiation and progression. Furthermore, we focus on assay and technology development as well as the improvement of established techniques. Results of our translational research will provide innovative biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis and prediction as well as the identification of rational therapeutic targets.
Mission
We are identifying genetic and molecular subgroups of common solid tumors by profiling tissue samples derived from clinically well characterized cancer patient cohorts using state-of-the-art technologies. In our research group, we focus on our core competences, provide our expertise to other laboratories and simultaneously broaden our scope of research by collaborating with national and international partners. We are a dedicated multidisciplinary team of biologists, physician-scientists, bioinformaticians and clinicians encouraging innovative thinking in a highly stimulating academic environment.
Principle
Our research group identifies itself with constructive communication, ambitious team spirit, quality supervison and providing the opportunity to develop professionally and personally into responsible and dedicated scientists.
Our overall devotion lies in producing quality research in order to improve cancer patient care.
