Personal item checklist for a hospital stay

A hospital stay is not a vacation but almost the same items belong in your suitcase. Hopefully, the following checklist will help with packing.

Personal toiletries: Towels and washcloths, soap, shower gel, toothbrush, toothbrush cup, shampoo, brush, comb, small hand mirror, nail file, nail scissors, hand cream, lotion and other personal items such as cosmetics or shaving articles.

Clothing (please think about a change of clothing): Pajamas, nightgowns, morning or bathrobe, comfortable clothing (e.g. tracksuit), flip-flops, slippers, socks, underwear and other clothes to wear after discharge.

Glasses, reading glasses, hearing aid, crutches, support stockings, dentures, retainer and blood glucose meter.

Entertainment: Books, writing materials, playing cards and handwork.

For children: Toys, a favorite stuffed animal (please speak to the nursing staff on the ward).

Miscellaneous: Some money for a newspaper, magazines, telephone and TV.

The following items would be better left at home: Jewelry, large sums of money, savings books or personal articles of great value.

Leaving the premises

Please note: There is no insurance coverage for admitted in-patients when they leave hospital grounds.
