Clinician Scientist Program

Supporting clinician scientists in combining research and clinical training across different career stages

Clinician Scientist Programs provide structured career pathways for physicians who aim to combine clinical training with internationally competitive research. These programs enable protected research time, structured training, and integration into interdisciplinary research environments.

In Schleswig-Holstein, the Clinician Scientist Programs are embedded within the cross-site Detlef Zillikens Clinician Scientist Academy, which is part of Precision Health Schleswig-Holstein (PHSH)—a joint initiative of Kiel University (CAU), the University of Lübeck, and the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH). Within this framework, the Clinician Scientist Academy Kiel and the Clinician Scientist Academy Lübeck offer complementary training environments and curricula.

At UCCSH, a particular focus is placed on clinician scientists working in oncology. By supporting physician–scientists across both campuses, UCCSH aims to strengthen translational cancer research and promote the development of independent research profiles at different career stages.

Further information on the structured programs and curricula can be found on the websites of the Clinician Scientist Academy Kiel and the Clinician Scientist Academy Lübeck.
