Patient Involvement in Research

Engaging patients as partners in cancer research

Patient participation in research projects is an increasingly important component of modern cancer research and is actively promoted within the framework of the National Decade Against Cancer. It is also becoming a standard requirement in many funding calls, highlighting the importance of involving patients in the design and implementation of research projects.

To support researchers in establishing meaningful patient involvement, the University Cancer Center Schleswig-Holstein (UCCSH), together with the University Cancer Center Hamburg (UCC Hamburg), offers a regular exchange format in which researchers can present their projects and specific ideas for patient participation to (former) cancer patients.

Held several times per year as an online meeting, this format provides a structured setting for discussion and feedback. Research projects are presented briefly, followed by open exchange with trained patient ambassadors who have completed the ONCOlleg program. These discussions help researchers to integrate patient perspectives into their work and to further develop their projects in a patient-centered way.

Upcoming dates:
December 9th, 2025 | February 10th, 2026 | April 13th, 2026 (4:30–6:00 p.m.)

Researchers who are interested in presenting their projects are invited to contact the organizing team (science.uccsh@uksh.de) to receive further information on participation and registration.
