Welcome to SBMI, the section for biomedical imaging the Dept. of Radiology.
Technology is advancing at an ever faster pace. Its affecting our lives in many ways and is shaping the fate of mankind. Modern imaging has enabled numerous revolutions, from microbes to x-rays and exoplantes. It has revolutionized the way we do and think diagnostics today. The same holds true for machine learning or artificial intelligence, which is having an enormous impact on how we acquire images, process and use them. A third revolution of our days is modern manufacturing and microelectronics. Both have revolutionized rapid prototyping and the way we think machining today.
Developing and applying these technologies is the goal of SBMI. Based on our fundamental research, we reach out in the research focus areas of the medical faculty in Kiel and beyond.
Our fundamental research includes projects on quantum physics, artificial intelligence, MRI and modern manufacturing. We bring these results to practical use e.g. in the fields of oncology, inflammation, neuro, with national and international cooperation partners.
We host and actively support the core facility for preclinical imaging, MOINCC, the intelligent imaging lab and the 3Dlab for modern manufacturing. As medical physics experts, we have taken on the task of controlling the dose of x-ray based examinations at UKSH Campus Kiel (clinical care).
An open, tolerant environment is paramout for us, as is supporting the next generation of scientists, - check out the hall of fame for our latest awardees.
