Dear colleagues and friends,
the 24th meeting of this kind reflects the progress that has happened in neonatology and paediatric intensive care over the last 30 years.
The introduction of surfactant into clinical care was a remarkable milestone in this aspect changing the prognosis of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), a disease that had a fatal outcome for so many tiny infants before. This meeting focuses on the advances that have been made especially in the management of respiratory diseases in the neonatal period.
Surfactant research also promoted the need for randomized controlled multicentre studies, which connected neonatology in Germany with many countries in Europe and even abroad.
Scientific cooperation and personal friendship arising from that really became drivers of progress directly improving the outcome of neonates.
This meeting tries to summarize some of this development and we are extremely happy to welcome such internationally known experts to Lübeck.
We look forward to intense discussions.
The old and the new are so close together in Lübeck!
